The Society's first exhibition of contemporary intaglio set the stage for all future shows by presenting the broadest possible cross-section of New York's artist community in the widest possible array of styles. The exhibition, and the catalogue that was produced to document it, also served to present the new society's mission and philosophy: to exhibit often, widely, and document the effort in collectable catalogues.

The first exhibition featured a total of 46 intaglio prints including work by the juror Will Barnet. Others associated with the exhibition included Marilyn Kushner, Curator of Prints and Photographs at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, as juror, and mezzotint artist printmaker Carol Wax, who contributed an essay entitled "From an Artist's Point of View." A majority of the exhibition's participants were able to contribute their exhibited work to a portfolio created for the New York Public Library's print collection.
