The Museum of the City of New York presented an exhibition of 39 intaglio prints organized by the New York Society of Etchers in its City Partners Gallery. The Gallery formed part of the Museum's highly acclaimed New York City History Learning Center that featured community oriented educational programs, exhibitions and events created by New York City based organizations.

The objective of the show was to present as broad a cross-section as possible of the printmaking community recognized by their reputations for portraying the essence of New York City in their works. The survey of artists included representatives from every walk of New York life including street vendors, instructors, immigrants and icons invited to participate by the Society and the Museum. Following the show, the majority of the participants were able to contribute their exhibited print to a portfolio that has become part of the Museum's permanent collection.

Ms Kathy Benson, Chair of Community & Family Programming; Mr. Bob Shamis, Curator of Photographs and Prints; and, Ms. Deborah Waters were largely responsible for the organization and implementation of the show. In addition to the prints, the Museum installed a vitrine of tools and printmaking materials organized by printmaker Andy Hoogenboom. A catalogue was produced by the Society to document the event, which included an essay by artist Richard Sloat.
